  Lurking NAHBS

I will be heading up to Richmond, VA this weekend to attend the North American Hand Made Bike Show this weekend. Every year, this show displays the finest work of small frame builders and component manufacturers. I'm not sure the orgainizers really "get" the whole BMX thing, however, so FBM, Profile Racing, and Brooklyn Machine Works are having a little after-show gathering with pizza and beers at Re-Cycles in Richmond. Info on the poster below:

I'll be wandering around the show on Saturday, if you see me, stop and say hello. Afterwards, come check out the goodness at Re Cycles. Word from the machine shop is that I'll have one of the first few Elite BMX Hubs with me. Come hear all the clicks!

  NoBoss Cranks News

There's still some confusion out there about Profile NoBoss Cranks and our Bottom Brackets, so allow me to shed some light.

If you want to run 144 or 130 chainrings, or traditional BMX sprockets with Profile Race arms with a sprocket bolt, get the Internal BB and the 5.25" GDH Spindle.

If you want to run the Outboard Bearing BB, you should get the 5.625" GDH spindle, and use one of our Spline Drive Spiders for Outboard BBs". This is all done in the name of giving the straightest chainline possible.

The soon to be released 36 tooth and larger Spline Drive Sprockets will probably work best, from a chainline standpoint, on the Internal Bearing BB. The first sprockets have come off the production line, and are going out to team riders first, and then to anodizing. They will be available to the general public in a few weeks.

I've updated the NoBoss Cranks page in our online store to give you the option of the Outboard Bearing BB. If you order the Outboard BB, it will automatically be shipped with the 5.625" spindle. I've added the BMX Spiders here: http://profileracing.com/estore2/index.php?productid=365 We only have the 4 arm spiders in stock as of today, but the 5 arm 110 spiders should be back from anodizing any day now.

  New Website

I've been working on this for a little while, I think you're going to like it. It's the all new and improved Profile Fixed site. I'm sure I forgot to cross a few T's and dot a few i's, but it shouldn't take long to get everything working perfectly.

Profile has some big plans for our Fixed Program this year. We've already been selling NoBoss cranksets and Spline Drive Spiders as fast as we can make them. Our new Outboard Bearing BB's have begun shipping, with the Offset Spiders to match them. The True 3/8's axle has been such a success that we've pretty much stopped selling the original axles.

But we're not done yet- it's only February, we've still got a list. Spline Sprockets in 39, 42, and 44 are coming shortly. We're riding prototype singlesided hubs. More chainrings, more colors, two or three collaborations, some nifty limited editions- lots more to come.

A special thanks to our shops and to all of the people out there who ride our parts. We want to hear back from you if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions. We might want to help sponsor your race. Hit that contact link up on the top of the page, or @profileracing on twitter and let me know what's on your mind.

thanks again,
-Christian

  Tom is big in Wisconsin

Tom Lamarche is all over the intertubes today.

First, at Prolly's place. Frozen pedal grind, Tom's got ups.

Then, at Pedal Consumption, some hot bank to wall skatepark action.

Tom in Milwaukee by John Prolly

ProfileFixed Website revision rolls out this week. Promise.

Tyler Johnson Photoshoot and James' Subrosa

Tyler Johnson has a sexxxy photo spread over on LOVEFIXE. It's safe for work. Via Zlogblog.

The Virgin James Covington is pretty much Chad DeGroot's hairy consigliere (hey that rhymes,) first at Mesh and from the looks of things now at Mr. Bikes N Boards, and he just built up a pretty slick Subrosa Malum with a full Profile gruppo. Check it out:

Website Revision should be ready any day now. REALLY!

  Nutcracker 2 Recap

The St. Pete Skirts put on the Nutcracker 2 Alleycat race on Saturday. I got to work the checkpoint in front of my favourite adult beverage dispensing center, The Sake Bomb, where the over 21 year olds had to do a shot of sake, and the under 21's had to do a shot of eggnog, so of course I had a good time. There were secret prizes for the riders who did the most shots of each, of course, which seems to me to be a recipe for disaster, but that's why I don't orgainize races, I just sponsor them and pour sake into paper cups. Anyway, some lunatic named Casey did 23 shots of sake, and some even loonier kid named John did 41 shots of eggnogg. That's almost a half gallon of sweet, creamy, thick and rich eggy goodness. Yes, the egg nogger puked. Casey was just getting warmed up, however. He's from Ohio, you know how those guys roll. Deep.

Sixty-Six riders entered, 67 riders finished, and when the smoke had cleared and the results were tabulated, Profile Fixed rider Elizabeth Morse-Hill beat everyone, including the men, and won herself another set of Profile hubs, that I'd laced into a set of Velocity rims with red and green nipples in a festive Xmas theme. Yeah, Elizabeth is a cat 1 on the road, so she's a bit of a ringer, but she's our ringer. Congratulations to her. To all the guys who got beat by a girl, pedal faster next time.

I also got to be one of the judges for the Fixed Freestyle comp. It was pretty fun, and the riders all kicked ass and sent themselves a time or two, but I'm still waiting for someone to do a 360 slider. Help me out, guys.

  Confetti and Nutcrackers

I'm not sure "who bike this is", or who took the pictures, but if it's yours, let me know and I'll send you something nice, cause this is bad ass. Cinelli/Mash Frameset with a Tri-Spoke front and a Profile/Zipp rear wheel. It's probably pretty fast.

EDIT TO ADD

Ok, Now I know. It's Andrew Temkin's bike. He's got more pics on his Flickr. Andrew, send me an email with your address, and I'll send you Tshirt or something. Thanks to Tony Fast for the heads up.

Thanks to Kelby.com for sending it over.

I'm edging closer to completion on a revised Profile Fixed Website. It's gonna be sweet. If you're in Florida this weekend, get to St. Pete for the Nutcracker on Saturday night. Meet at 3pm at Cafe Bohemia. Be there.

  December News

John Prolly sent over these, for some New York action:

Down here in Florida, the Nutcracker II is happening a week from tomorrow in St. Petersburg. I'm building a special Xmas-themed set of wheels for the winner, so you should probably show up, if Alley Cat's are your thing.

Pete Young has been podiuming in the B's on a fixed gear cyclocross bike in the Florida Cyclocross Series. It's pretty amazing to watch him ride. Especially since it's not even his bike. Pete's been busy getting married and stuff this fall, so just imagine what he'll do next year on his own bike...

Yes, the sand pits on the off-camber downhill in Claremont were so deep they put carpets over them. Welcome to Florida CX.

I've got a lot happening behind the scenes here, including a full revamp of this here website.Look for that soon!

  True 3/8 Axles Available Friday

The True 3/8" axles for our Fixed hubs will be available starting on Friday, November 6. They feature an oversized aluminum center female style axle, and your choice of CrMo or Titanium axle bolts. This axle was derived from the axle in our best selling BMX Mini hub, and should make our axles virtually indestructable. The conespacers are made from aluminum, with a knurled hardened steel washer pressed on to bite into your frame.

The True 3/8" axles fit into virtually every frame track end that I tried them on, from a Cinelli-Mash Vigorelli to a 1986 Peugeot PX-10. You might need to file your fork dropouts to fit the axle, particularly if you have a lighter fork, but they will fit a Volume, FBM, or Milwaukee fork with no modifications needed. It just depends on the fork- you need an axle slot of about 9.5mm to fit the True 3/8" axles. If you don't know what you're doing, don't file your own fork- take it to a bike shop who does know what they are doing. Trust me. Paying the bike shop 15 dollars is a lot cheaper than paying the hospital to rebuild your face because your dropout snapped off.

If you are doing any Fixed Gear Freestyle, these are the hubs for you. If you're a larger rider, or you ride like a larger rider, then these also for you. They are compatible with all Profile Fixed hubs, so you can retrofit them to your hubs if you already ride Profiles.

The original axles will still be available for the forseeable future. Pricing will be the same for both axle styles.

  Knockout Race in VA Beach

My friend and fellow Team Pimpske member Craig Lloyd and The Thunderbirds are putting on a race in VA Beach this weekend. If you live in the area, and you're fast, you should probably attend this event, as I sent up a set of Gold Profile Fixed Hubs for the winner.

The poster is super clean, too.

Good Luck...
